Westminster Council, London UK
Employee Workshop

BACKGROUND: Political correctness is not a buzzword in government agencies - it is at the top of the agenda. Westminster council deals directly with a large number of voluntary groups, and this can present considerable problems for Westminster's group facilitators.
Specifically, they have to deal with very (very) difficult people, who are not on the payroll and who come from all walks of life.

THE CHALLENGE: A one-day package was needed to educate and inspire the facilitators to better-handle these difficult people. Complex psychology had to be distilled into an easy to understand and make-use-of manner. Instead of theory, the facilitators needed easy to remember methods to take with them into the field.

THE SOLUTION: A one-day event for up to 35 people at a time was devised as an on-your-feet, improvised, demonstrated and more importantly fun day out. Actors were hired to portray the difficult archetypes, who were given humorous names like "Tina Tantrum" and the group then had the opportunity to "replay" situations, using key techniques.

Professional actors helped to bring ideas to life.
